Working with capture widgets
Overview
Ortto’s capture widgets are website widgets that help users convert their store’s or website’s visitors into subscribers. Capture widgets are configured in Ortto and are designed to appear on your website when specific criteria have been met.
Accessing capture widgets

Managing capture widgets
Capture widget types
In Ortto, you can manage all your capture widgets, including the option to:
- Create a new capture widget.
- Use a template to create a widget.
- Customize a blank template.
Available widget types include:
- Bar: Highlight important announcements and gain new subscribers.
- Popup: Capture attention and grow your email list.
- Conversation: Share announcements via a chat-style widget.
- Notification: Make announcements and encourage subscriptions. (Non-blocking, so users can still interact with the site.)
- Takeover: Remove distractions to focus attention and increase subscribers.
- Banner: Share important info and grow your subscriber base.
- Form: Embed a form to gather new subscribers.
- Tracked Form: Capture form submissions from your website.
- Prompt: Request opt-in for push notifications or share important messages.
- Spin the Wheel: Offer a gamified discount wheel to attract subscribers and drive sales.
NOTE: Visitors can close captures on the screen by pressing the ESC key.
If you're concerned about accessibility, be aware that Popup captures block further actions until dismissed. For a smoother experience, we recommend using a Bar or Notification capture for non-blocking calls to action (CTAs).

Push capture widgets
Before sending a web push campaign, create a capture widget to request push notification permissions from your visitors. Without this widget, your push campaign won’t have an audience.

Using capture widgets in journeys
Capture widgets appear for contacts when they reach the widget stage in a journey. The widget will show the next time they visit your website or the page where it’s set to display.

Setting up file downloads in capture widgets
Users can download files like PDFs, guides, or eBooks by clicking a button in a capture widget. This allows for instant access to valuable content after submitting a form or interacting, creating a smooth experience while collecting user info.
