How to test your journey

Overview

Testing a journey lets you check that your workflow, including emails, actions, and conditions, is set up correctly before it's activated. This helps ensure everything triggers and runs as expected, so you can fix any issues before using it with live contacts.

Testing your journey

To test your journey, create a test contact and add it to the workflow. Follow the steps below for each part. If you already have a test contact, you can skip ahead to adding it to the journey.

Creating a test contact

To create a test contact:

  1. Navigate to CDP > People.
  2. Click More > Add person.
  3. Fill in the details (use an email you can access) and click OK.

Adding the test contact to the journey

To test your journey, add your test contact to it before enabling it for everyone.

  1. In your journey’s entry criteria, use the condition: Email is [your test contact email address].

2. When you're ready, turn on the journey, and the contact will begin the workflow.

Tips

Testing the journey multiple times with the same contact

If you need to test the journey multiple times with the same contact, update the following setting:

  1. Change People can be in journey to either Only once, and enter multiple times or More than once, and enter multiple times, depending on your test needs.

2. Configure the relevant action and emails to occur more than once:

Example of setting an email to be sent more than once.

This ensures the actions and emails are processed each time your test contact enters the journey. If not updated, they will only trigger the first time, and later entries will fail.

TIP: To re-trigger the journey for the same contact, turn the journey off and then back on.
