Understanding Shopify permissions

Navigating Shopify permissions in Ortto is key to ensuring a smooth integration and optimal use of your data. This guide will help you understand how Shopify permissions work and how they impact your experience within Ortto.


Email and SMS permissions in Shopify

When creating a new contact in Shopify, you can set email and SMS marketing permissions.

To enable these:

  • Email marketing permission: requires an email address.
  • SMS marketing permission: requires a phone number.

NOTE: You must complete the required information before enabling these permissions. Otherwise, the checkboxes will stay grayed out.


Manage existing permissions for a Shopify contact in Shopify

NOTE: Only update marketing permissions based on the recipient's provided consent.

To update a contact’s permissions in Shopify:

  1. Log in to Shopify and go to Customers.
  2. Select the contact you want to edit.
  3. Click the three dots (top right).
  4. Choose Edit marketing settings.
  • You can enable or disable both SMS and email permissions via the checkboxes:
  1. Email: - Customer agreed to receive marketing emails.
  2. SMS: - Customer agreed to receive SMS marketing messages.
  3. Click Save.

NOTE: Any changes to email or SMS subscriptions after saving will be recorded in Ortto.
