BIMI (brand indicators for message identification)

Overview

This article explains how to set up BIMI (brand indicators for message identification) to display your logo next to the sender's name in recipient inboxes. BIMI helps improve brand recognition and builds trust with your audience.

Key points

  • BIMI setup is managed at the domain level, not through Ortto.
  • It requires authenticated email traffic, which is supported by Ortto's Custom domains.
  • DNS record changes and DMARC policy updates are essential for configuration.
Example of a BIMI-authenticated email.

Limitations

  • Not all mailbox providers support BIMI, and requirements vary between providers. You can view a list of mailbox providers that support BIMI here.
  • Ortto does not manage BIMI configuration but supports authenticated email traffic to meet BIMI criteria.

Steps to set up BIMI

  1. Ensure email traffic is authenticated using Ortto’s Custom Domains.
  2. Work with your IT team to:
    1. Add a BIMI DNS record.
    2. Configure your DMARC policy to support BIMI.
  3. We recommend following this implementation guide: https://bimigroup.org/implementation-guide/
