Email preference center
Overview
The Preference center lets users personalize what they see on Ortto's web pages based on their email subscription preferences. Users can access these pages by clicking the Update preferences link found in any Ortto email footer, whether it's from a regular email or a journey campaign.
Accessing email preference center
To access the email preference center page, go to Settings > Channels > Email > Preference center.
Managing email preference center
The email preference center page allows users to configure:
NOTE:
- If you haven't added any audiences to your email preference center (meaning no public audiences are set up), your contacts won't have access to the email preference center.
- They will only see an Unsubscribe link in the default email footer provided by Ortto.
Saving changes
Remember to click Save in the top right corner to apply your changes.
Content
In this tab, you can customize what contacts see when they interact with the preference center. Expand the relevant sections in the Content tab to edit a page’s title, description, link, and button text.
Home (opted-in)
This webpage appears when a recipient clicks Update your preferences in an email and includes any selected audience options.
To customize this webpage:
- Navigate to the Email preference center.
- Under the Content tab, expand the Home (opted-in) section.
- If translations are enabled (Settings > General > Language > Translations), choose the language for the homepage.
- Edit the default text fields:
- Page title.
- Title.
- Description.
- Unsubscribe link.
- Save button.
Home (opted-out)
This webpage appears when a recipient clicks Update your preferences in an email.
The subscribe link on this page opts the person in to receive email messages from you. It also means they may receive emails targeted to any audience they qualify for.
To customize this webpage:
- Navigate to the Email preference center.
- Under the Content tab, expand the Home (opted-out) section.
- If translations are enabled (Settings > General > Language > Translations), choose the language for the homepage.
- Edit the default text fields:
- Page title.
- Title.
- Description.
- Subscribe link.
Subscription updated
This page appears when a contact turns off their subscription to an audience in your preference center.
To customize this page:
- Navigate to the Email preference center.
- Under the Content tab, expand the subscription updated section.
- If translations are enabled (Settings > General > Language > Translations), choose the language for the page.
- Edit the default text fields:
- Page title.
- Your subscription has been updated.
- You may now close this window.
NOTE: Contacts cannot subscribe themselves to a specific audience; they must meet the audience entry criteria to become a member.
Confirm unsubscribe
This page appears when a contact chooses to unsubscribe from a specific list (audience) or from all email.
The content displayed depends on the type of audience the email was sent to:
- Emails sent to a private audience (not added to the email preference center) allow contacts to unsubscribe from all emails.
- Emails sent to a public audience (added to the email preference center) allow contacts to unsubscribe from this specific list.
To customize this page:
- Navigate to the Email preference center.
- Under the Content tab, expand the Confirm unsubscribe section.
- If translations are enabled (Settings > General > Language > Translations), choose the language for the homepage.
- Edit the default text fields:
- Page title.
- Title.
- Description: stop receiving emails (for private audience)/ Description stop receiving similar emails (for public audience).
- Unsubscribe from this list/ Unsubscribe from all email.
- Footer.

Unsubscribed (collect feedback)
This page appears when a contact has opted to unsubscribe from all emails.
The content displayed varies based on the type of audience the email was sent to:
- For emails sent to a private audience (not added to the email preference center), contacts can unsubscribe from all emails.
- For emails sent to a public audience (added to the email preference center), contacts can unsubscribe from this specific list.
To customize this page:
- Navigate to the Email preference center.
- Under the Content tab, expand the Unsubscribed (collect feedback) section.
- If translations are enabled (Settings > General > Language > Translations), choose the language for the homepage.
- Edit the default text fields:
- Page title.
- Title.
- No more similar email (for public audience) / No more email from this company (for private audience).
- Question.
- Answer fields.
- Please explain.
- Submit button.
- Footer.

Feedback submitted
This page appears after a contact has unsubscribed and submitted feedback.
To customize this page:
- Navigate to the Email preference center.
- Under the Content tab, expand the Feedback submitted section.
- If translations are enabled (Settings > General > Language > Translations), choose the language for the homepage.
- Edit the default text fields:
- Page title.
- Thank you for your feedback.
- You may now close this window.
- Footer.
Already unsubscribed
This page appears when a contact clicks the Unsubscribe link in an email again, after already having unsubscribed.
To customize this page:
- Navigate to the Email preference center.
- Under the Content tab, expand the Already unsubscribed section.
- If translations are enabled (Settings > General > Language > Translations), choose the language for the homepage.
- Edit the default text fields:
- Page title.
- You're already unsubscribed.
- Resubscribe.
NOTE: Clicking the Resubscribe link will subscribe the contact to receive all emails from you and enter them into any qualifying audiences. Contacts can manage their subscriptions via the email preference center.
Opt-in emails
The way users subscribe to emails depends on your chosen opt-in method at Settings > Channels > Email > Email > Opt-in method.
Style
In the Style tab, you can customize the appearance of your email preference center pages.
Add your logo, choose colors and a theme, and select fonts.
TIP: Your logo should be a maximum size of 1 MB and should ideally be 2048 pixels wide by 2048 pixels high.
- To ensure optimal display, your logo will be resized proportionally to Ortto’s maximum dimensions of 180 pixels wide or 80 pixels high. We recommend a logo ratio of 180:80 with a minimum width of 360 pixels for sharpness on high-resolution Retina displays.
Audiences
The Audiences tab is where you manage which audiences are shown in your email preference center.
Adding audiences
- Click Add subscription audience.
- Select an audience.
- Once added, click its name to customize display text.
- Click Save & exit to finalize.
Reordering audiences
- To change the order, drag the reorder icon next to an audience.
Editing audience names and descriptions
- Customize each audience with a public name and description for clarity.
- Names like Newsletter, Announcements, or User Onboarding help contacts know what to expect.
- Click an audience name to edit Subscription name and description fields as needed.
Removing audiences
- To Delete an audience:
- Click the Audience name.
- In the options, click the Trash icon.
- Click Save & exit to confirm.

Translations
Enable translations at Settings > General > Language > Translations to adjust language settings.
Ortto’s AI will provide translations for the preference center page content.
You can preview a version of the preference center in each language by clicking the language preview menu.
