Understanding the "Sign-in attempt blocked" email

Overview

The "Sign-in attempt blocked" email is a security feature designed to protect your Ortto account. When your account is accessed from a device or location that Ortto does not recognize, you will receive this email. It acts as an extra step to confirm that it is really you trying to log in, keeping your account safe from unauthorized access.

How Sign-in Attempt Blocking Works

Ortto keeps a record of the last 5 IP addresses you've used to log in. If you attempt to sign in from an IP address that is not on this list, Ortto will temporarily block the login. You’ll immediately receive an email asking you to confirm whether the attempt was yours.

Once you verify the new device or location, you can complete the sign-in process. This means that any time you travel, use a new device, or connect from a different network, you may receive this verification email.

For example, if you usually log in from your office with IP addresses 192.0.2.1 through 192.0.2.5, and one day you try to access Ortto from a coffee shop with IP address 203.0.113.8, you will receive the "Sign-in attempt blocked" email. Once you verify this sign-in, your new IP address will be added to the list, and the oldest one will be removed.

Because Ortto only remembers your last 5 IP addresses, frequently changing networks or using multiple devices may result in more frequent verification emails.

How to avoid extra verification steps

If you prefer not to verify every time you log in from a new location or device, you can enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on your account.

With 2FA enabled, Ortto will no longer require the extra location or device verification step, regardless of the IP address. 2FA adds an additional layer of security by requiring a code from your mobile device or authentication app in addition to your password. This means you can access your account securely from anywhere without interruption.
