Data hosting

Overview

By default, customer data in Ortto is hosted in the United States (US). However, during signup, users can choose to have their data hosted in Australia (AU) or the European Union (EU).

IMPORTANT: Once you select a data hosting location, it cannot be changed.

EX: If you choose the EU, your data will remain there for the duration of your account.

All Autopilot Journeys customers have their data hosted only in the US. If you choose a different region for your Ortto data, that will remain your hosting location even if you turn off Autopilot and continue using Ortto.

How do I check where my data is hosted?

To find your account's data hosting location, go to Settings > Privacy, Security & GDPR > Data Hosting.


Why choose a non-US location for my data?

If you're an Ortto customer in the EU or AU, hosting your data locally offers several benefits:

  • Data sovereignty: Your customer data stays within your chosen region, protected by local laws.
  • Trust: This is especially important for organizations like government and non-profits, as it builds trust with your customers.
  • Compliance: Local hosting can help you meet regulations such as the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Performance: Storing data locally may lead to faster access and better performance in Ortto, as the system operates in your region.

Keep in mind that third-party systems we work with may host their data elsewhere.


Data hosting for existing Ortto customers

If you already have an Ortto account, you cannot change your data hosting location. To host your data in a different region (EU or AU), you'll need to create a new account with the desired hosting setting.
