Managing people’s phone numbers
Overview
To ensure your SMS campaigns are delivered successfully, it's important that phone numbers are formatted correctly. Each phone number should include the country code.
Example:
- A US number should be formatted as +1 555 555 5555.
When collecting phone numbers, encourage customers to enter the full number with the country code, such as in a form on your website. Similarly, any integrated data sources should include the country code so that it syncs correctly with Ortto.
This will help ensure smooth delivery of your SMS messages.
Add or edit a person’s phone number
To add a country code to a person’s phone number:
- Navigate to CDP > People, click on the linked phone number of the person you want to edit.
- In the person details panel on the left, find the Phone number field (usually under About).
- Hover over the phone number field and click the edit icon.
- Click the flag icon to select the country code, then click the tick to save.
This will update the phone number with the correct country code.
Set a fallback country code
If most of your contacts are in the same country, you can set a fallback country code. This ensures Ortto automatically applies the correct country code when sending SMS messages to contacts without a country prefix in their phone number.
To set the fallback country code:
- Go to Settings > Channels > SMS > SMS Limits and Fallback.
- Select the Fallback country code.
