Migrating to Ortto from Braze
Overview
Braze customers are making the switch to Ortto to take advantage of our ease of use and exceptional customer support, advanced reporting tools including attribution tracking, and personalization features. Ortto offers a more intuitive and flexible platform designed to help you grow and optimize your marketing efforts with ease. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the process of migrating your contacts from Braze to Ortto.
Migrating to Ortto
Export segment data
Follow these steps to export segment data from Braze to a CSV.
Exporting data from the segment editor
- Log in to Braze.
- While editing your segment, go to the User Data dropdown.
- Choose whether to export User Data or Email Addresses for the segment.
Exporting data from the segments page
- On the main Segments page, find the segment you want to export.
- Click the Settings dropdown for that segment.
- Select Export as CSV.
NOTE:
- To export data from all user profiles, create a segment with no filters, then request a CSV export. This will include all user data captured at the time of export.
- Braze will generate the CSV report in the background and email it to the currently logged-in user once the export is complete.

Import contacts to Ortto
Importing all contacts to Ortto
Once you've downloaded your Braze CSV file, follow these steps to import your contacts into Ortto:
- Log in to Ortto.
- Navigate to CDP > People.
- Select More > Import.
- On the Connect a data source page > Select Spreadsheet import.
- Upload the CSV file you downloaded from Braze.
- Map the columns from your CSV file to the fields in Ortto.
- If some fields don’t exist yet in Ortto, you can create them by navigating to:
- Settings > Customer data > Fields > New custom field.

Importing segments to Ortto
If you have separate segments in Braze that you want to import into Ortto, follow these steps:
- Export your segments from Braze separately before importing them to Ortto.
- During the import process in Ortto, add a tag to the contacts at the Tag step.
This will allow you to recreate your Braze segments as audiences in Ortto.
Create audiences in Ortto
To recreate your Braze segments in Ortto, use the tags added during import:
- Go to CDP > Audiences and click New Audience.
- Under Filter, search for and select the tag you applied during import.
- Click Next.
- Give your audience a name and icon.
- If you want this audience to appear in the preference center for contacts to manage their subscriptions, check the box.Learn more about creating audiences.
